Multani Embroidery

Hand Embroidery is a beautiful art. It has been a passion and favourite past time of the ladies all over the world for centuries. And now it has become a way of earning for many.

It is said that hand embroidery was first used by the royal ladies of Egypt to decorate their dresses. From then on it has been used and utilized in various forms. Different areas of the world are famous for their special kind of hand embroidery. Although, nowadays embroidery through machines is becoming popular, one still cannot deny the significance of hand embroidery.

Pakistan with its rich cultural heritage is quite famous in the field of hand embroidery, as its various cities and towns are famous for their different styles of embroidery. One of the city is Multan. It is in the south of the province Punjab.



This 'City of Saints' is famous for its various crafts, one among them is hand embroidery.

This type of embroidery can be done on all kinds of things like, ladies wear (including shirts, shawls, scarfs) bedsheets, tableclothes, hand bags, towels and even on leather shoes called Khussas. Multani khussa's are famous for their embroidery and sequence work.

Other crafts of multan includes Blue pottery, and lamps and boxes made by camel skin.
